Math Projects for 3rd Graders
UWF funds computer tutorial systems and volunteer tutors at public elementary schools in Port Townsend and Chimacum. The math tutorial computer uses artificial intelligence to deliver individualized lessons specific to a student’s readiness. Volunteer tutors provide support for students by helping them read instructions, stay focused, use paper and pencil to do math computations, and learn to use the ALEKS ‘explain’ feature when they don’t understand how to solve a problem. Volunteers include women and men from AAUW and the community-at-large. The program was initiated by AAUW in January 2011.
